Tyrone Mims, an amateur mixed martial arts fighter based out of Augusta, Georgia, tragically died on August 11th, 2012, following his bout on a Conflict MMA event in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Mims was making his amateur debut, losing in the second round of the contest. Mims was rushed to the hospital shortly thereafter where he was pronounced dead.
Mims represented the second death of a mixed martial arts fighter in recent years in a South Carolina event, following the June 2010 death of professional fighter Michael Kirkham. The South Carolina Athletic Commission oversaw the events where both Kirkham and Mims competed.
